Wiki Project: The Modern Olympics
Today the Modern Olympics are one of the most anticipated worldwide competitions in the world. Over 57 countries participate in the games such as soccer, hokey, curling, swimming, fencing and many more. The modern Olympics are one of the most watch competitions because, Pierre De Coubertin started the first Olympic games in 1896, and because curling is a sport where only the most smart and clever nations can play.
First, Pierre De Coubertin started the first Olympic Games in 1896. He was a French aristocrat who was also known as Le Renovator. In 1890 he founded a sports organization and tried to get France into sports but was not met with much enthusiasm ("Modern Olympics").However, he persisted that they should vote. The committee voted unanimously that the first Olympic Games should be held in Athens to commemorate the ancient Olympics in Greece thousands of years ago ("Modern Olympics"). On the other hand, he created the Olympic motto along with the Olympic hymn, and the Olympic oath. With the help of his two friends named Syros Samara and Kostis Palamas, they wrote and composed these but they did not become official until 1957(olymmpics.org). Without this man and along with his two friends, the world as we know it would be dull and boring.
Lastly, curling is a sport where only the most smart and clever nations can play. The game of curling is played on a rink that is 42.07 meters long and 4.38m wide with a target at the end of the rink for scoring points. Players have shoes in which the soles are the same as ice skates allowing them to slide across the ice (olymmpics.org). Also, they pretreat ice by putting water droplets all over the course to make the ice bumpy. This allows the people to curl easier ("Modern Olympics"). They throw a thing called the stone to score points or to stop the other team from scoring. Also known as the rock, the stone weighs 19.1kg and is made out of dense granite that is quarried in Scotland’s Ailsa Craig (olymmpics.org). People say that hockey, soccer baseball are the hard sports but none of them come close to how hard curling is.
In conclusion, the Modern Olympics are one of the most televised games because, Pierre De Coubertin started up the first Olympic matches in 1896, and because curling is a game where only the most intelligent and tricky nations can play.

My Favorite Summer Olympic sport is soccer because I have played soccer all of my life and because of all the great shots and plays that make you sit on the edge of your seat waiting for more.

My Favorite Winter Olympic Sport is curling. I like curling because you need to be smart and strong willed to be able to play it. It is one of the hardest games to play in the Olympics and I believe the harder the game is the better it is.
Robert Korzeniowski is a three time winner of the 50 km walk at the Summer Olympics. He won 1996 in Atlanta, 2000 in Sydney, and 2004 in Athens. He became the first athlete to claim both the long distance and the short distance crown, when he won the 20 km title at the 2000 games. He also won world championship titles in 1997, 2001, and 2003.
Witold Woyda, a Polish fencer who competed for Poland in fencing’s foil division in four consecutive Olympic Games. He shared the team silver in 1964, team bronze in 1968, and team [[Brendan Noel#|gold]] in 1972 and captured an individual gold in 1972, which made him Poland’s first athlete to win double gold in the same Olympics. Despite standing only 5 ft 7 in tall, Woyda had agility, an aggressive style, and exceptionally quick reflexes that allowed him to defeat much larger and stronger opponents.
